How do car park roller shutters work?

It’s best to think of car park roller shutters as giant versions of the automated shutters you might see on a residential garage.

They’re designed to fully retract and vanish from sight during the car park’s hours of operation and provide maximum security when the car park is closed. They do this by retracting effortlessly into a compact box, thus requiring minimum headspace for installation.

Car park roller shutters are usually operated electrically via a motor. This can be a single-phase motor or three phase motor, depending on the amount of usage the shutter will receive.

Direct drive three phase motors can usually handle up to 40 operations per hour.

What should I be aware of when buying car park roller shutters?

There are a number of rules governing car park roller shutters that you need to take into consideration.

When it comes to ventilation to help prevent the build-up of fumes from cars, there are three different levels of airflow available with our shutters:

          perforated;

          punched; and

          grille.

However, if your car park has sufficient ventilation already, you’ll be able to opt for a lath with no vision or airflow.

For insurance purposes, different levels of security might be required by your insurer. Our shutters come in different thicknesses of 75mm lath. 22g (0.7mm), 20g (0.9mm) and 18g (1.2mm). These are selected based on the size of your car park shutter and the level of security you want.
